Volunteering

image missing please notify webmaster

Join us as a volunteer and help make Peterborough a better place. Volunteering with us is an excellent way to learn more about Peterborough, while contributing to our work in a friendly and co-operative spirit.

We look for our volunteers to become members of the Society, so gaining access to the full range of our activities while helping support the Society through your membership subscription. But if you would like to discuss the available opportunities before making a decision to join, you are welcome do so without any obligation.

Currently, we need help to fulfil the following roles:

Talks organiser

We are looking to recruit someone to assist with organising monthly talks, someone who can bring a fresh eye and can suggest suitable speakers for approval at committee, then arrange to book them for our speaker season meetings.

Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering access to properties that are usually closed to the public or waive their charge for entry. It is a once-in-a-year chance to discover fascinating buildings and to enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring to life local history and culture that takes place usually over two weekends every September.

We are looking for a replacement to act as the Heritage Open Days local co-ordinator. The work involves liaising with existing participants to encourage their continued involvement and look for possible new venues, establish who will be taking part and record event details and opening times on the Heritage Open Days website and arrange local publicity. We will give guidance on the procedures currently used so the new incumbent will not be going into the role cold.

Planning

Our Plans Group works largely on-line to review and, if we feel it is required, comment on significant planning applications. We know from experience that our comments carry weight with the City Council and contribute towards the achievement of better planning outcomes. We would welcome extra members to serve on this group. Some experience of planning or architecture would help, but experience is not essential and we shall support you to learn.

If you are interested or would like more information please contact Derek Brown, 01733 349396 derek.brown222@btinternet.com

Would I need to join the PCS committee?

Ideally yes, but not necessarily? The extent of your involvement with other aspects of the work of the Society would depend on what you are comfortable with.

Thank you
