Peterborough Civic Society is a registered charity (no. 279306) which plays an important part in preserving and enhancing the city’s heritage and monitoring the quality of new development. We are completely independent and rely on the support of our individual and corporate members.
Donations also form a very important part of our fundraising and are very much appreciated, helping us to pay for projects and campaigns.
Please click the pound sign to make a donation by credit or debit card. You can select the value of your donation up to £25.00 once you have clicked on the button.
The system will process your donation as a purchase order, so please ignore references to "in stock", "order confirmation" and "awaiting processing" on the automated email response.
If you prefer, donations, of any value, can be made:
- by cheque payable to Peterborough Civic Society and posted to Roger Davis, PCS Treasurer, 34 The Rookery, Orton Wistow, Peterborough PE2 6YT
- or by bank transfer to the Society’s account at TSB, account number. 01182035, sort code 30-96-60, quoting your name and “donation” as the reference.
Volunteering
Join us as a volunteer and help make Peterborough a better place. Volunteering with us is an excellent way to learn more about Peterborough, while contributing to our work in a friendly and co-operative spirit.
We look for our volunteers to become members of the Society, so gaining access to the full range of our activities while helping support the Society through your membership subscription. But if you would like to discuss the available opportunities before making a decision to join, you are welcome do so without any obligation.
Currently, we need help to fulfil the following roles:
Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering access to properties that are usually closed to the public or waive their charge for entry. It is a once-in-a-year chance to discover fascinating buildings and to enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring to life local history and culture that takes place usually over two weekends every September.
Sadly our current co-ordinator is needing to stand down, so we are looking for a replacement to act as the Heritage Open Days local co-ordinator. The work involves liaising with existing participants to encourage their continued involvement and look for possible new venues, establish who will be taking part and record event details and opening times on the Heritage Open Days website and arrange local publicity. We will give guidance on the procedures currently used so the new incumbent will not be going into the role cold.

Sales and marketing
As a Society we have published DVDs, a book and pamphlets, cards and other items. We would like someone with some sales or marketing flair or experience to help us in this area. Currently, for instance, we need to complete the sale of our stock of Peterborough in Detail greeting cards. There are 4,000 cards to sell, which should generate funds of £4,000 for the maintenance of Peterborough Cathedral. (Sales administration and income collection need not be included in your remit as our Treasurer can handle these.)
We also need help to recruit individual/family members, to complement the large increase we have recently achieved in the number of our corporate members.
For further details please contact: Roger Davis, 01733 235484, rogerdavis47@btinternet.com
Planning
Our two Plans Groups meet every month to consider and comment on significant planning applications. We know from experience that our comments carry weight with the City Council and contribute towards the achievement of better planning outcomes. We would welcome one or more extra members to serve on these groups.
If you have some experience of planning or architecture, we would love to hear from you. If you would like to give this a try but are concerned that you may not have sufficient knowledge of the planning system, don’t worry as we will help you learn on the job!

Would I need to join the PCS committee?
Ideally yes, but not necessarily? The extent of your involvement with other aspects of the work of the Society would depend on what you are comfortable with.
Thank you
